Seating Chart treats the students you teach, the physical room, and each saved seating arrangement as three connected concepts: Class, Classroom, and Seating Plan.

A Classroom is the room

A Classroom describes the reusable physical space: its dimensions, furniture, Front of Room, and physical Seats. It answers the question, “What does this room look like?”

Multiple Classes can use the same Classroom. If you teach in more than one room, each physical room can have its own Classroom layout.

A Class is the people

A Class is the group of Students and the Class-specific teaching and seating information associated with them. It keeps its own Roster, Seating Plans, Attendance, Random rounds, Quick Records, Custom Fields, and other Class activity.

First period and third period can use the same Classroom while keeping different Students and different plans.

A Seating Plan is the arrangement

A Seating Plan is a named arrangement of one Class’s Students into physical Seats in a Classroom. A Class can keep multiple Seating Plans, with one active at a time.

Different plans for the same Class may use the same Classroom or different Classrooms.

How they work together

  1. 01

    Build the physical room

Arrange the desks and furniture so the classroom is recognizable at a glance.

  2. 02

    Create a Class

Add the group of Students who meets in that room.

  3. 03

Choose or create a Seating Plan

Decide which named arrangement and Classroom the Class should use.

  4. 04

    Seat that Class

Assign Students to physical Seats without rebuilding the Classroom.
