This five-part path takes you from the welcome screen to a usable teaching workspace. You can explore the fictional Example Biology Class without entering school data, or follow the same path with your own Class and Classroom. Every Student shown in the screenshots below is fictional.

Your five-part Quick Start

  1. 01

Explore the example or create your workspace

On the welcome screen, choose Explore an Example Class to open the fictional Example Biology sandbox. To build your own, choose Get Started for a new Class or New Classroom, complete or skip Teaching Setup, then choose an existing Classroom or create one with a Starter Layout.

  2. 02

    Add or import Students

When the Classroom is ready, choose Add Students, Import a Roster, or I’ll do this later. You can return from the active Class, switch to Roster, and add Students manually or import a CSV or tab-delimited text file. Excel workbooks are supported for export, not roster import.

  3. 03

Arrange or generate a Seating Plan

Open Seating to arrange Students in the active plan, or create a new Seating Plan and choose Generate with Seating Preferences. Place Unseated Students, resolve any occupied-Seat conflicts, and choose Done to save; review a generated proposal before confirming it.

  4. 04

Find Class Tools and make changes later

In an active Class, open Class Tools for Seating, Export Data, Edit Class, and Edit Classroom. Use the navigation drawer to return to a Class later, switch between Seating Chart and Roster, and use Seating to switch or manage its named Seating Plans.

  5. 05

Keep Help and Backup & Transfer within reach

Bookmark this Help Center for searchable guides and direct Support. In Seating Chart, open Settings, then Data & Privacy, then Backup & Transfer to create or restore a teacher-controlled backup or review the transfer steps for another iPad.

Switch between Seating Chart and Roster without changing the active Class. Roster keeps Student tools and assignments close at hand.

Arrange Students in the active Seating Plan

Arrange Students manually, shuffle the draft, or use Seating Preferences before saving a coherent seating change.

Return to named Seating Plans later
