Seating Chart imports rosters from CSV files and tab-delimited text files such as TSV. It does not currently import Excel workbooks.

Student identity and Class-specific information
Student ID is the canonical school or Student identifier that can identify the same Student across Classes. Student Number belongs to that Student’s enrollment in one Class and may differ between Classes.
Roster Name can preserve the exact display name supplied by a roster. Given, Middle, Family, Preferred, Reading, and Latin name fields can also be stored separately when the file provides them.
Blank values usually preserve useful existing information
For an existing Student, blank incoming identity fields do not erase useful information already stored for that Student. Blank Student Number and Custom Field cells also preserve existing Class values.
When a file supplies a current Grade or Class Group, Seating Chart can update that value during the reviewed import.
Seat assignments require an explicit value
A missing Seat Number column or value preserves existing seating. An explicit Unseated, None, or No Seat value removes the Student’s current Seat assignment.
Invalid or conflicting Seat assignments must be reviewed before the import can be completed.
Other roster columns
Unrecognized columns can be mapped to existing Custom Fields or, where supported, proposed as new Text Custom Fields. Review the mapping before confirming the import.
