Seating Preferences describe placement needs that Seating Chart can consider when it proposes a new plan. They can also help you review how the Current Plan fits those needs.

Current preference types

  • Front — place one Student toward the Front of Room.
  • Back — place one Student toward the back of the room.
  • Fixed Seat — assign one Student to a particular physical Seat in a Classroom.
  • Keep Together — place two Students near one another.
  • Keep Apart — separate two Students in the proposed arrangement.

Required and Preferred

A Required preference is a constraint the generated plan should satisfy. A Preferred preference is a goal the generator tries to satisfy when possible.

A proposed plan can still require review. Seating Chart reports Required and Preferred satisfaction and identifies issues that Need Attention when applicable.

Review the Current Plan

Seating Preferences can show how the active plan currently complies with the preferences you have defined. This review does not silently change the seating arrangement.

Use preferences to generate a new plan

  1. 01

    Open Seating Preferences

Define or review the individual and pair preferences for the active Class.

  2. 02

    Set the priority

Choose Required or Preferred for each enabled preference.

Done saves the preference work and returns you to Seating.

    Create a new Seating Plan

From Seating, start the new-plan workflow and choose Generate with Seating Preferences.

  5. 05

    Review the proposal

Check the proposed arrangement and its Required, Preferred, and Needs Attention results before confirming it.
